ABSTRACT

Background: Bevacizumab vials that are commercially available are fractionated into smaller quantities into the form of pre?filled syringes in a sterile and aseptic laboratory setting. Purpose: To share the long term experience of aliquoting of bevacizumab injections in a tertiary eye care center in India. Synopsis: Compounding of bevacizumab was found to be a cost?effective and sustainable practice that has benefited more patients with an affordable cost, while maintaining high levels of quality. Highlights: Compounding of bevacizumab, when done with aseptic precautions can be a safe and cost?effective practice, the benefits of which can be passed on to needful patients.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID?19) is known to cause thromboembolic episodes apart from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). With large vaccine drives all across the world, there are a few case reports on post?vaccine thrombotic events seen with the AZD1222, ChAdO × 1 vaccine. Here, we present two cases of central retinal vein occlusion presenting immediately after receiving the second dose of the Covishield vaccine. Although the causal relationship cannot be drawn, the ophthalmologist should be aware of this adverse reaction

ABSTRACT

Background: Tuberculosis is a major health issue globally despite a declining trend in mortality with effective diagnosis and treatment, an estimated 10.4 million persons developing active TB each year with 1.33 million deaths. Objective of this study was to evaluate role of GeneXpert MTB/RIF/assay in diagnosis of female genital tuberculosis in suspected cases of tuberculosis. Methods: It was a cross sectional study done in department of obstetrics and gynecology in S. N. Medical college Agra for a period of 2 year (July 2017 to October 2019). 70 cases were selected from OPD of department of obstetrics and gynecology, S. N. Medical College Agra who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria after taking proper consent. In all selected cases endometrial biopsy sample was taken using endometrial biopsy curette in premenstrual period. All samples of endometrial biopsy were taken under all aseptic precaution from both corneal ends, anterior and posterior wall and lower part of uterus using endometrial biopsy curette and sample was collected in two separate sterile vials having normal saline and was sent for GeneXpert MTB/RIF/assay and liquid culture simultaneously. Results: Out of total 70 clinically suspected cases of female genital tuberculosis in between 20-45 years of age cough with expectoration 94% was the most common respiratory symptom followed by fever 81%, weight loss 56% and anorexia 54%. Prevalence of genital tuberculosis in active pulmonary tuberculosis patients was 30%. Irregular menstruation, vaginal discharge and pelvic pain were present in 69%, 60% and 52% patients respectively. Conclusions: The overall sensitivity of CBNAAT was 22% and specificity was 77%. The overall sensitivity of liquid culture was 28% and specificity was 71%.

ABSTRACT

Male breast cancer is a rare cancer that forms in the breast tissue of men, it accounts for 1% of all the cancers in men. Recent epidemiological studies suggest that the incidence of MBC is increasing by 1.1% per year.  Due to lack of knowledge and awareness, MBC cases are diagnosed lately, mostly during stages III /IV. Early detection and reduction of mortality and morbidity related to male breast cancer is essential. The present article provides a detailed study of a patient with Infiltrating ductal carcinoma, grade III with regional nodal metastasis and the patient is positive for both oestrogen and progesterone receptors. In this case the patient is alcoholic and had habit of chewing tobacco since childhood and one of the patient’s relative had female breast cancer. These are the probable risk factors in this particular case. The better knowledge regarding the male breast carcinoma can be obtained through the thorough study of the available male breast cases.

ABSTRACT

In the present study, we have reported the synthesis of some novel heterocyclic derivatives comprising imidazole and 1,3,4-thiadiazole containing moiety. Imidazothiadiazoles are of interest because of their diverse biological activities and clinical applications. Reactions of biphenyl carboxylic acid with thiosemicarbazide in the presence of phosphorous oxychloride resulted in biphenyl containing 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole which is then further subjected to condensation with α-bromoarylketone under reflux in dry ethanol. The structures of the newly synthesised compounds were characterized by various spectral techniques and screened for antibacterial activity against strains of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilis, and antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aspergillus niger. The compounds exhibited moderate to good activity when compared with standards.
